The New England Patriots lost a hard-fought matchup against the New York Jets last weekend, and emotions are still running high almost a week later. The Jets have moved on and will face the Pittsburgh Steelers this weekend for the AFC title while the Patriots watch the game from home, reflecting on what went wrong during last week’s rendezvous.
While there’s no doubt the Jets earned last week’s big win in the divisional round, some players’ characters have been called into question following the way that several Jets players reacted after their big win. According to USA Today, Patriots receiver Deion Branch has called them out. After last week’s game, Branch said many Jets players acted “classless” while celebrating the win, though he didn’t use specifics. This week, he went on record with USA Today, saying that maybe the Jets reacted that way after last week’s game because the matchup was like the Super Bowl to them.
Branch said, “Sometimes when you are not supposed to be in certain situations you act that way and that is how some of those guys are. They aren’t used to being in that position, and this was their Super Bowl. But it wasn’t our Super Bowl. This was probably their Super Bowl and that is probably why they were acting that way.”
Will Rex Ryan and the Jets offer a rebuttal this week after Branch’s comment?

Despite downplaying the injury in recent games, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has been reported to have had surgery on his right foot this week. NFL.com reported the surgery and sourced the Boston Globe for the information, saying that a screw might be necessary in the foot surgery. The report also states that Brady played through the entire season with a stress fracture in his foot, and the injury has been a nagging one for well past this season.
For the last eight regular season games and into the playoffs, the Patriots listed Brady on the injury report, though he played every game in helping his team to a 14-2 season. Indeed, Brady had one brilliant season in the league despite injuries, racking up 3,900 throwing yards, 36 touchdown passes and just four interceptions for the season.
Since it looks like Tom Brady will be spending quite some time recovering after surgery over the next few months, it’s unlikely he will be playing in the Pro Bowl. Announcements will likely be made soon regarding his backup for the Pro Bowl, which will be San Diego’s Philip Rivers or Indianapolis’ Peyton Manning.

Outspoken Cincinnati Bengals receiver Chad Ochocinco might have caught his last pass from Carson Palmer, and rumor has it he could be headed to New England to play with the Patriots next season. Ocho, a 33-year-old receiver, is due $6 million with the Bengals next year — unless they decide to buy out the contract for $3.5 million, which they could do if they wish to go with a youth movement to try to fix this year’s problems on the field.
Should the Bengals release Ochocinco, it’s very plausible to think he could find a landing place in Foxborough. The Patriots are known for taking older (and sometimes troubled) players and transforming their careers, and Ochocinco could be a dangerous receiver working alongside Wes Welker.
On top of this, Ochocinco and Bill Belichick are already acquainted, having worked together in the Pro Bowl. Earlier this week, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported that Ochocinco tweeted the following message to the Boston Herald’s Ian Rapoport: “PePe and Bill #EPIC” (PePe is one of Ocho’s many nicknames for himself).
There’s no doubt that Bill Belichick and Chad Ochocinco could be quite the dynamic duo on the football field. The Enquirer quoted Belichick saying the following about Ochocinco before Week 1 of the regular season, “I like Chad. I like him as a player. I like him as a person. I like his enthusiasm and the fun he has with football, and I like how he competes on the football field. I have a lot of respect for that. [We're] an odd couple, but in the end I think we have a lot of things in common.”
Ochocinco to New England? Let the campaigning begin.

To say that Patrick Chung dropped the ball Sunday night is an understatement. The New England Patriots safety made a bold move during Sunday’s big matchup against the New York Jets in the divisional round of the playoffs, making a huge risk that didn’t quite pay off for the Patriots.
During a would-be punt on fourth-and-4, Chung called for long snapper Matt Katula to snap him the ball, planning on running for a first down on a trick play. Instead of it all panning out, however, Chung fumbled the ball off the snap, botching the fake punt. He recovered the ball, but didn’t make the first down and the Jets got the ball back on the Patriots’ 37-yard-line, setting the Jets up for a touchdown just four plays later.
It wasn’t necessarily Chung’s fault that the Patriots ended up losing Sunday’s game, but Chung is taking credit for his botched fake punt. Talking to NFL.com after the game, Chung said, “Of course, there are regrets. That’s part of the game. That’s all on me. Not Bill (Belichick), not Scotty (O’Brien, the special teams coach). I take full responsibility.” He continued, “It’s part of the game. Some things happen. Bounce back from it. That play’s over, but it’s my responsibility. It didn’t work out for us.”

Just weeks after pounding them into the ground in a 45-3 regular season matchup, the New England Patriots have fallen to the revamped New York Jets. The Pats and Jets faced off last night in one of the most thrilling divisional games of the entire weekend, and ultimately the New York crew was able to secure a 28-21 win over Tom Brady and Co., knocking the Patriots out of Super Bowl contention.
The Patriots played well overall but didn’t have the extra push it took to get them past a very solid Jets team, and the Pats’ season came to a screeching halt inside Gillette Stadium last night as Mark Sanchez and the Jets advanced to the conference championship game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Tom Brady spoke with NFL.com this morning, reflecting on last night’s performance. Talking about the Jets, Brady said, “They didn’t make any mistakes. They didn’t have any penalties, they didn’t have any turnovers, they didn’t give up big plays. I think they really came into this game saying, ‘We aren’t going to give up those big plays when we blitz.’ I think they said, ‘We’re going to play a very similar way we played the Colts.’” He continued, “I was driving home last night and thought, ‘We just never put any pressure on them.’”
Brady and Co. have the rest of the year to reflect on yesterday’s loss, as it marked the end of their 2010-11 campaign. Still, a 14-2 season is more than commendable.

The New England Patriots fought hard all season long to win the AFC East, and this weekend they’ll try to prove why they secured the top spot in the division over the New York Jets in the regular season. The Jets are on the move as a Wild Card team and will play the Pats this weekend in the divisional round, but Tom Brady and Co. are quietly confident going into Sunday’s big matchup — and they should be, considering the matchup on paper.
Tom Brady is an absolute beast on the football field, and he’s been on a hot streak for the last couple months. So far this season, Brady has gone 324 for 492 passing with a total of 3,900 yards and 36 touchdowns. Compare that to Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez, who has totaled 278 for 507 passing with 3,291 yards and 17 touchdowns.
The Patriots also have a variety of weapons on the offense, including running backs BenJarvus Green-Ellis and Danny Woodhead, who have both stepped up big this season. Wes Welker and Deion Branch are also reliable options for Brady, and if the New England offense can outlast the tough New York defense, a conference title might just be in the cards this year for the Patriots.

The New England Patriots face off against the New York Jets this weekend in the divisional round of the playoffs in the AFC, pitting two bitter rivals against each other for one of the biggest games of the year. The Patriots and Jets are fired up and ready to go for Sunday’s matchup, and the winner will be whichever team is better prepared to handle the other.
The Jets might have the bigger job of containing their opponent in Sunday’s game, especially considering that the Patriots have won 13 of their last 17 games this season. Tom Brady has been absolutely on fire lately, garnering discussions as the league MVP and helping the Patriots look like a Super Bowl-winning team. While the Jets are no fluke, it’s Rex Ryan’s crew who has everything to prove and Bill Belichick’s army that has everything to lose in Sunday’s AFC divisional matchup.
Last time the Patriots and Jets met on the turf, New England sent New York in a downward spiral, soundly thumping them 45-3 in Week 13 on Monday Night Football. Will the Jets make a comeback or do the Patriots have a win locked down for this weekend’s game? We’ll let you decide.

Tom Brady can’t escape being media fodder this week, thanks to the rowdy New York Jets. Rex Ryan already laid into the quarterback in the press preceding Sunday’s big game, partaking in his usual song-and-dance leading up to a big game, and now Ryan’s players are taking jabs at the Pro Bowl QB, as well; namely, outspoken cornerback Antonio Cromartie.
Cromartie held nothing back while speaking to the New York Daily News this week. Talking about his hatred for the Patriots, Cromartie proclaimed Brady was an “a******.” He started the tirade by talking about how Brady pointed to the Jets sideline after throwing a touchdown in the Pats’ 38-3 win over the Jets in early December. Asked if he’d seen Brady’s finger-pointing, Cromartie said, “We see that a lot. He does it a lot. That’s the kind of guy he is. We really don’t give a damn, to tell you the truth.” He finished up the expletive-laced topic by saying, “**** him.”
During the interview with New York Daily News, Cromartie also defended the Patriots quarterback by proclaiming he was a true competitor and had such intense love for the game that he’s focusing on himself during games and not what the other team thinks about him. Regardless, Cromartie’s fightin’ words are sure to incite some kind of reaction from the Patriots — maybe not this week to the media, but for sure on Sunday when the Jets and Pats face off in the divisional round of the playoffs.

The New England Patriots are preparing for business as usual this weekend as Tom Brady and Co. get ready to host the New York Jets in the divisional round of the playoffs. As for the Jets, they’re up to Rex Ryan’s typical outspoken ways in the days leading up to Sunday’s big game. Ryan began targeting Brady in the media last week and has been unrelenting thus far this week, as well, also including Bill Belichick in his media attacks. Proclaiming this weekend’s matchup is personal between he and Belichick, Ryan fueled a fire in the media in waging war against the Patriots.
Belichick brushed off the verbal attack, however, joking to NFL.com, “I might have a little quickness on him. He’s probably got a little more strength and power on me. So, I don’t think you’ll see either one of us out there making any blocks or tackles or runs or throws or catches. At least you won’t see me doing it. It’s probably a good thing for our team.”
The Patriots are the team with the most to lose in this weekend’s big matchup, and they’re certainly going to bring their “A” game on Sunday when this battle of the AFC East gets underway in Foxborough.

The New England Patriots have been waiting to demolish the New York Jets one more time this season, and they’ll get that chance this weekend when the two rivaling teams meet in Foxborough in the divisional round of the playoffs. The Patriots and Jets are division rivals and are split at 1-1 against each other this season, with the Patriots having the leg up in a 45-3 blowout last time the two teams faced each other during the regular season.
Tom Brady and the Patriots will be well-rested going into this weekend’s big game, but they cant be overconfident after seeing the way the Jets exploited the Indy defense during last weekend’s win over the Colts in the wild-card round. While Jets coach Rex Ryan has already begun his verbal assault on the Patriots preceding Sunday’s big game, Tom Brady is dismissing the talk as just that — talk.
“You can have the whole team talk, ‘We’re going to do this and do that,’ and it doesn’t mean anything,” Brady told NFL.com. “To me, it’s a lot more hype than substance. What really matters is what you do in the game. We could sit here and make all these predictions of what we’re going to do, but it’s not how we go about our business. We handle it the same way. All the hype, buildup — but you got to go play. See who’s ready to play.”
Will the Jets be ready to play this weekend when they travel to the lair of the New England Patriots? Stick around to find out.
